Powering smarter security shopping: BigCommerce as the new front-end for a trusted protection provider

Problem Statement

A leading Australian e-commerce platform specializing in security products, such as smart locks, surveillance systems, and home safes, sought a solution to scale its online presence. As the demand for security products grew, the business needed a high-performance, scalable platform capable of supporting both complex technical products and a smooth customer experience.

The decision to build the storefront on BigCommerce provided a solid foundation for scalability and performance. However, creating an engaging and user-friendly experience required significant customization across the storefront—from navigation and product discovery to checkout and SEO-preserving content migration.

Project goals included:

  • Developing a flexible, multi-tier navigation structure (mega-menu)
  • Improving category and product discovery with dynamic features
  • Enhancing Product Detail Pages (PDPs) with rich content driven by variants and metafields
  • Structuring a transparent checkout experience for multi-seller scenarios
  • Enabling internal teams to easily manage content updates
  • Preserving SEO value through blog content migration
  • Supporting in-store traffic with a custom store locator

Our Solution

We collaborated closely with the client to deliver a fully customized BigCommerce storefront, optimizing the user experience and internal operational control through advanced front-end engineering, content structuring, and third-party integrations.

Mega Menu with Multi-Tier Navigation: To streamline user navigation across product categories:

  • Developed a custom mega menu using BigCommerce Page Builder and Handlebars logic
  • Implemented clear visual hierarchy, intuitive grouping, and category labeling
  • Supported quick access to nested product types, reducing browsing friction for technical and non-technical users alike

Modular Content with Page Builder Widgets: Created a suite of custom Page Builder widgets to give the internal marketing team full control over homepage modules, landing pages, and static content without needing developer intervention.

Dynamic Product Loading with InfinityLoad : To enhance the shopping experience across category pages:

  • Replaced standard pagination with an AJAX-based InfinityLoad system
  • Products are loaded dynamically as users click “Load More,” avoiding full page refreshes
  • Improved mobile usability, browsing speed, and reduced server load

Optimized Product Detail Pages (PDP): PDPs were customized to improve product understanding and encourage conversion:

  • Utilized metafields to display rich product content: size guides, shipping info, return policies, and feature highlights
  • Built a custom image gallery with a clean lightbox viewer for enhanced product visualization
  • Implemented upsell messages based on brand-specific metafields to promote relevant accessories or upgrades
  • Enhanced variant visibility and selection via interactive UI controls

Seller-Aware Cart & Checkout: For the multi-seller model, we:

  • Grouped items in the cart by seller for better cost breakdown visibility
  • Displayed seller-specific tax, shipping, and discount details
  • Streamlined the checkout process, maintaining transparency and reducing cart abandonment

Custom Store Locator with Google Maps: To help customers locate nearby retail partners and stockists:

  • Built a custom store locator using the Google Maps API, with endpoints and data provided by the client
  • Fetched and displayed dynamic store info: address, contact, opening hours
  • Implemented filtering options by location and service type to improve usability

Blog Content Migration with SEO Preservation

To ensure the continuity of blog-driven organic traffic:

  • Scraped blog content including HTML, images, and metadata from the legacy Marketplacer blog
  • Migrated posts into BigCommerce via the REST API
  • Preserved critical SEO elements: canonical URLs, meta descriptions, alt tags, and formatting
  • Ensured seamless visual consistency with the new site layout
