Problem Statement

Our client, a leading Tyre dealer in Australia, was operating a successful e-commerce storefront on a legacy platform. While the platform itself remained functional, their support partner withdrew frontend development support, leaving the client without the ability to maintain or evolve their website experience. 

With growing demand for custom functionality, localized features, and a modern, scalable infrastructure, the client needed to transition to a more manageable and flexible platform. Key requirements included: 

  • Rebuilding the entire storefront on Shopify. 
  • Introducing custom promotions like “Buy 3 Get 1 Free” with added service fees and deposit payments. 
  • Developing a location-aware store locator for booking services. 
  • Implementing dynamic upselling within the shopping cart. 
  • Enhancing variant filtering and visibility across product pages. 

 

This shift required not just migration, but a complete re-architecture of their digital experience, tailored for operational efficiency and customer engagement. 

Our Solution

We migrated the client from their legacy platform to Shopify, rebuilding the entire front-end experience from the ground up. Beyond the core migration, we developed a suite of custom features to meet the client’s unique business needs in the Australian market. 

What made the solution different? 

Custom Promotional Engine for Tyre Offers 

  • Shopify’s native “Buy X Get Y” functionality was not compatible with the client’s need to accept partial deposits. 
  • We developed a custom app that: Automatically apply the “Buy 3 Get 1 Free” discount based on product attributes. 
  • Added a Tyre fitting fee when the offer was activated. 
  • Seamlessly integrated with the deposit functionality, enabling part-payment during checkout. 

Store Locator with Google Maps Integration 

  • Built a location-aware store selector using the Google Maps API. 
  • Displayed the nearest three dealerships based on the user’s suburb or postcode input. 
  • Stored the selected location in the session, allowing this choice to flow into backend processes like bookings and order handling.

Dynamic Cart-Based Upsell Feature 

  • Introduced an in-cart upsell for value-added services such as wheel alignment. 
  • Displayed the upsell only when the cart had items, enhancing relevance. 
  • Supported variant selection directly within both mini and full cart views. 

Intelligent Product Variant Filtering 

  • Carried over filters from the Product Listing Page (PLP) to the Product Detail Page (PDP). 
  • Ensured only matching variants were shown based on prior filter selections. 
  • Used sessionStorage and URL parameters to persist filter states across navigation and refreshes. 
  • Offered a “Clear Filters” option to reset selections without reloading the page. 

This suite of solutions ensured a highly personalized, localized, and intuitive e-commerce experience, built on a scalable foundation.
